Nathan Francis “Nate” Borek, 23, formerly of Glenwood, MD, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at his home in Richmond, VA. Born in Durham, NC on July 17, 1995, he was the youngest son of Kevin J. and M. Lisa Carroll Borek of Glenwood.
Nate was a vibrant and exuberant person who loved his life. He walked a complex path to adulthood and over the past few years he had found his place in the sun, emerging as a man of true strength and character – a man’s man who loved working hard with his hands and body, while maintaining a sensitivity to the needs of those around him.
Among so many other things, Nate loved the beach, history, country music, fishing, animals, walking along the James River, photography, and trying out new restaurants. He treasured the company of his family, his many friends, and his two sweet pit bull buddies, family pup Zelda and a friend’s pup Moose. He was a kind, generous person who never knew a stranger and routinely stopped without thinking to help anyone he saw who needed a hand. Nate loved everything about his adopted hometown of Richmond, VA. He was very proud of the professional skills he had worked to build over the past few years (carpentry and the trades) and his new job at H. J. Holtz & Son. Finding tremendous happiness and focus on the future in this rich life that he had built in Richmond, with new friends who had embraced him with open arms as one of their own, Nate was making his family proud with all he had accomplished. He was a loving son and brother, a beautiful soul with a sweet grin who has left us way too soon and will be missed greatly by all who had the privilege to know and love him.
Surviving in addition to his parents is one brother, Evan J. Borek, of Glenwood, paternal grandparents, Joseph and Helen Borek, of Dagsboro, DE, aunts and uncles; Terri DeIuliis and husband Vince, of Mt. Airy, Jim Carroll, of Springfield, VA, Karen Carroll, of New Windsor, Maria Carroll of VA, and Greg Borek and wife Kathleen, of Frederick, many well-loved cousins. He will also be sadly missed by many friends. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Frank and Mary Carroll and his uncle, Tom "TC" Carroll.
A celebration of Nate's life will be held at 3 p.m., on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
If desired, contributions can be made in Nate’s honor to Gracies’s Guardians, an initiative of the Richmond Animal League focused on improving welfare of pit bulls in the greater Richmond area.
