Joanne Kane

Joanne Gessay Kane, 77, of Frederick passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.  Born on May 3, 1941, in Rockville, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anne Gessay.

Joanne touched the lives of many students and faculty while serving as a professor of business studies at Bay Path Junior College in Long Meadow, Massachusetts, and Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield, CT, from which she retired as Director of Continuing Education.

She was a member of the Connecticut Rotary Club and once served as president. She also was on the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters for both Frederick, MD and Enfield, CT. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, computer games, visiting friends and family, and spoiling her beloved cat, Cami Sue.

She is survived by her brothers Donald Gessay, Roger Gessay and wife Barbara, niece Susan Keller and husband Jeff, nephew Scott Gessay and wife Mary, great niece Shawn Gessay, great nephew Ryan Gessay and wife Jacquelyn, and nephew Matthew Skidgel. She will be missed by many friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Gessay and Anna Skidgel.

A receiving of friends will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018, from 1-3 PM at the Spring Ridge Senior Apartments in the community room, 6351 Spring Ridge Pkwy, Frederick, MD, 21701. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Ms. Kane’s name to the Animal Welfare League of Frederick County, 1202 East Patrick St., Ste 13A, Frederick, 21701.
