Robert E. Vaughn

Robert was born on June 23, 1924 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, the youngest of 5 siblings, the son of Emery Patterson Vaughn and Nellie Bowders (Carbaugh). In 1942, he graduated from Greencastle High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1943 and served in the South Pacific theatre from the Solomon Islands to the Philippines at the rank of staff sergeant through the end of World War II. After the war, he went on to college, graduating from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dairy Science in 1950. Bob worked for Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative Association from 1950 to 1996 starting as a field representative and retiring as the general manager of the association.   He served as a officer of many national dairy industry organizations. He was known for his do-it-yourself attitude and many talents. He enjoyed woodworking, masonry, hunting and fishing. Bob was active in many community organizations including as a baseball coach and scout leader. He was always known for his willingness to jump in to help family, friends and neighbors with a variety of projects.

His wife, V. Jeanne Vaughn predeceased him in 2014. For 60 years, Bob and Jeanne were members of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Frederick, Maryland.

He is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Steve and Alice; Brad and Karen; and five grandchildren, Heather Anderson and her husband Joel, Courtney, Jennifer, Robert, and Christopher. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Rick and Judy Vaughn, and Dennis and Donald Eberts.

Bob will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. A graveside service will be held for family members only in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania on October 20, 2018. Gifts of remembrance can be given to the V. Jeanne Vaughn Scholarship Fund through the Community Foundation of Frederick County.
