Cornelius J. “Neil” O’Donnell, 89, of Frederick, MD, formerly of Bowie, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2018. Born May 10, 1929 in Hazleton, PA he was the son of the late Cornelius A. and Mary R. (nee McBride) O’Donnell. Neil was the beloved husband to Clare Marie (nee Hanley) O’Donnell, whom he married in 1955 and had been dating already for 11 years.
Neil graduated from St. Gabriel High School in 1947, then graduated from Georgetown University with a bachelors in 1951, was with the United States Marines from 1952 until 1954, he would then go on to graduate with a Law degree from Georgetown University.
He worked as an attorney for the Bureau of Hearings and Appeals until his retirement.
Some of his hobbies included photography, which he did for the Marines, horse racing, playing pool, and song writing. Neil was also an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; James O'Donnell and wife Patti, Clare Mullee and husband Joe, Ann Utt and husband Derek, and Michael O'Donnell and partner Mark. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Mary O’Donnell of Frederick, and sister Mary O’Donnell Brislin of Hazleton.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 East 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701. Interment will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery.
