Richard Daniel "Dick" Murphy

Mr. Richard "Dick" Murphy, age 66 of Frederick passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the cherished and beloved husband of Brenda Murphy. Born on May 5, 1952 in Bethesda, MD he was the son of the late Jack Paul, Sr. and Mary Ethel (Daniel) Murphy. Mr. Murphy was a 1970 graduate of the Bullis School, Potomac, MD and attended Guilford College in North Carolina. In 1997, he and his wife established the local business, Express Signs, Inc. where he was still actively working. Mr. Murphy's congenial and affable personality made him a well-liked and highly regarded member of the Frederick community. He was known for his quick wit, his sense of humor, and his kind and generous spirit. Mr. Murphy loved spending time with family and friends, watching and playing golf, and was an avid fan of Washington DC sports. In addition to his wife, Mr. Murphy is survived by his children Kristine Marie Murphy of Sacramento, CA and Richard Daniel Murphy, Jr. of Arlington, VA and his siblings Jack Paul Murphy, Jr. and wife Mary of Littleton, CO and Dorothy Jean Brownlee and husband Clay of Scottsdale, AZ. He will also be missed by his beloved extended family. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 6 to 8 PM and on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 2 to 5 PM at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Murphy's name to Hospice of Frederick County, PO Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
