Ruth Powell

Ruth Geasey Powell died on November 8, 2018 at the Genesis Glade Rehabilitation Center in Walkersville, MD.  She was born on February 18, 1928 in Mountaindale, to Luther T. and Stella Rice Geasey , and was the wife of Raymond Thomas Powell for fifty-nine years.
Mrs Powell was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church for 68 years.  She graduated from the Frederick Memorial School of Nursing in 1950 and retired from the Frederick County Health Department in 1988.  She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Mt. Prospect Cemetery and a trustee for the Mountaindale Chapel.  She and her husband spent many happy hours dancing with the Gateway Swingers Dance Club, Les Chewnings Club and the Fredericktowne Promenaders.  She was an accomplished pie baker, seamstress and loved to sing.
Surviving are:  one daughter, Laura and her husband Benjamin Like of Frederick and their four children Christopher, Abra, Sophia, and Elliot; one son,  Dennis Powell and wife Marlene of Boonsboro and three children Kristina, Rachel and Spencer.  She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Carmen Like, Bryson Powell, and Clover Like;  her sister n law, Shirley Geasey and many nieces and nephews.  Her sister Alice Fisher and brother Luther Thomas Geasey predeceased her.
The family will receive friends and family from 4pm to 7pm on Friday November 16 at the Keeney Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street,  in Frederick.  The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 17 at 10 AM at the Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9664 Opossumtown Pike, with her pastor Karyn Albaugh officiating.  In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church or the charity of one’s choice.  Burial will be in the Mt. Prospect Cemetery, 11213 Angleberger Road in Lewistown.
