Richard Dilley

Richard Joseph Dilley, 65, of Frederick, MD changed addresses to Heaven on November 10, 2018.  Born in Washington, DC to Margaret and Richard W. Dilley on June 2, 1953, he grew up in Forestville, MD, graduated from McNamara High in 1971 and Frostburg SU in 1975.  In 1978, he married Deborah Dilley, his “very best friend” and beloved wife of 40 years, just celebrated.

Richard was a devoted father and will be missed by his three daughters, all of Frederick:  Melinda Eldin, Carolyn Reid and husband Garrett, Janette Case and husband Marvin, and his beautiful children Willow, Spartan and Winter.

Richard worked for the Department of Defense for 40 years, starting in the Defense Mapping Agency and finishing at the National Geospacial-Intelligence Agency, with an emphasis on Research & Development of new systems to give America’s military & peacekeepers the edge in defense of our nation.  He enjoyed being a “background” person, as a co-worker stated best:  He was “by nature, a humble person, …one of the unsung heroes that significantly advanced our industry…(his) role in several peace accords…saved countless lives.  There are few folks that can truly say their careers made a difference, you my friend, could be shouting it from the roof tops!  But like I said, you’re humble.”

He loved God, country, photography, classical/ folk music of all kinds, deer hunting, winning the State Championship in Silhouette Competition, and traveling, seeing Stonehenge just last month.  Most important to him, and a great legacy to us, was his quiet, steadfast faith in Jesus.  He favored intimate, personal conversations, and people from all walks of life are now expressing an appreciation for their dialogues together concerning faith.

Funeral services will be held at 1PM Friday, November 16, 2018 at Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church St. Frederick, MD.   Friends & family are welcome preceding the service from 11 am – 1pm.  Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market St, Frederick, MD.
