Virginia Nicodemus Metcalf

April 14, 1927 — November 20, 2018

Mrs. Virginia "Ginny" Nicodemus Metcalf, age 91 of Braddock Heights passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Kline Hospice House, Mt. Airy. She was predeceased by her husband Richard M. Metcalf whom she was married to for 69 years. Born on April 14, 1927 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late H. Fulton and Nina (Null) Nicodemus.

Mrs. Metcalf was a graduate of Frederick High School. She worked for Peoples Life Insurance Company, The Frederick County Board of Education and the Frederick County Government, retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Frederick. She was a long time volunteer for the Citizens Nursing Home Auxiliary and in her free time she enjoyed camping, traveling and reading.

Mrs. Metcalf is survived by her children William K. Metcalf and wife Dawn of Charlotte, NC, Donald R. Metcalf and wife Martha of Smithsburg, Cathy A. Knear and husband M. Paul of Afton, VA, and Paul M. Metcalf and wife Kim of Orrtanna, PA, grandchildren Emilie Martin and husband Dan, Andrew Metcalf and wife Deborah, Joseph Metcalf and wife Meghan, Micah Metcalf and wife Emily, Benjamin Knear and wife Emily and Lindsay Sites and husband Zach and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Barbara A. Lescalleet and husband Gilmore of Silver Spring, her sister-in-law Mildred C. Nicodemus and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Metcalf was preceded in death by her brothers Edgar F. Nicodemus and wife Helen R. and Roger N. Nicodemus.

Funeral services are planned for Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11 AM at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 133 W. 2nd St., Frederick, MD 21701. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Metcalf's name to The Citizen's Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary, 1920 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, MD 21702 or to Calvary United Methodist Church at the above address. Arrangement by the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, Frederick.
