Patricia Elaine Gabriel

Mrs. Patricia Elaine Gabriel, 80, of Frederick passed away at Kline Hospice House on December 29, 2018. She was born on September 8, 1938 in Baltimore to the late Frederick and Margaret Player.

She was the beloved wife of the late Ignatius “Nick” Gabriel of 52 years. They met in 1962 while both working at Walter Reed Medical Center. Nick who worked as a Chaplain’s Assistant would deliver rosaries to her while she was working as a secretary.

Mrs. Gabriel graduated from the Academy of Holy Names all girls’ preparatory high school in Washington, DC. She went on to attend Strayer College then to graduate from Frederick Community College in 1993. She was very proud to be a part of the Phi Theta Kapa honor society during her time at FCC.   She was an avid bingo player who would go to many of the local games during the week . She was one of the founding members of both Holy Family Catholic Church and St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church. She loved to sing and was a long-standing member of the choir until the time of her passing. She also began Kate’s Ladies at St. Katharine Drexel.  She volunteered for Frederick Memorial Hospital and Hospice until October of this year completing 21 years of service.

Mrs. Gabriel is survived by her children Michael Gabriel, Monica Gabriel, and Colleen Nestor and husband Matthew, grandchildren Derek Nestor, Dominic Nestor, and Corinne Nestor, sister in law Catherine Molnar and husband Emil. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Penny, her fur baby, will miss their many walks. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Player.

The family will receive friends from 6-8PM, on Friday January 4, 2019 at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 8428 Opposumtown Pike,  Frederick, MD. A  Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at St. Katharine Drexel with an hour prior of viewing. Entombment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery’s mausoleum will be scheduled at a later date. Father Keith Boisvert will officiate.
